Unloading
It seems like the parents of one group of children I teach are so happy that we are pregnant just so they can get rid of their baby items in a more useful way--offering them to us! I know that this is simply not the case, but it's kind of funny. We received an insert for a baby bathtub from one mother, and on Wednesday, another unloaded a bunch of baby toys on us. I am not sure if we will use them yet (still have to look into what cleaning them thoroughly would entail and whatnot), but it's very kind of them.
Come out of where??
My other children's class was a disaster on Thursday, but one kind of funny yet extremely embarrassing thing happened. It wound up being one boy and one girl as the other girl didn't want to study after we had our snack time and went away to her room screaming at her mom (it was at her house). That's the same girl who can't understand a half-white/half-Korean baby. Anyway, for some reason, the little girl still in class started talking/asking about how when the baby is born and they cut the baby out...I was confused and I said, "Ah, no cut!" The two children looked at me incredulously and then started cracking up hysterically: (in Korean) "The baby's going to come out of your butt! The baby's going to come out of your butt!!!" All I could say was, "No, no, no!" and just slap my hand on my head, then somehow try to regain their attention to the studies.
Bus!
There's a new bus line that goes right from our apartment to right in front of the apartment complex I teach at. It is not far by bike, but some days, I am just too tired to ride. This is awesome. My first time trying to take it resulted in lateness and a really sore shoulder (would someone please tell me why buses are manual here??), but going to class today proved just fine. I'm always getting my exercise on the way back home, though, as I race the bus as it is stuck at a red light to try to catch it. Koreans bus drivers aren't even half as considerate as American bus drivers, who actually pay attention to see if anyone is running to try to catch up.
Cheese...
I can't find the post with the comment, but to either Alfee or MommyCha, thank you for mentioning the cheesesticks at Costco! I did not see them when we went the first time (yes, we've already been back again!), but I did pick some up. I was shocked at the price, too, as the Family Mart downstairs sells them for over 1,000won a piece--this was just over 15,000won for 48! Yum.
Tacos
I still want some Taco Bell like woh. Even just the taco mix for the meat. ;~; Making it is too much work.
Chicken
They say that what you eat during pregnancy influences what your child will eat best. I don't know how true this is and don't fret over it too much, but it does have me thinking about chicken. I have not been able to eat very much of it since becoming pregnant, and I am not so sure why. The rotisserie chicken is absolutely fine, but some other chicken stuff gets one bite and that's it. I feel bad because there is this delicious kind of chicken we order and cook now (we order a lot of our food to cook at home now instead buying it at the store), but I have so sort of aversion to it. It's a little spicy, but I have no problem eating the potatoes or rice cakes in it. It makes coordinating dinner a little tricky around here.
Baby is a huge fan of pork, fish and turkey, though, so I think we're okay. Beef has met a somewhat similar fate to chicken, but that chadolbaegi the other night was quite welcome. Yum.
Stretchmark Cream
I am SO glad I was not enticed to buy any at the baby fair we went to because I think I have enough for a couple of pregnancies now! I received one bottle on Teacher's Day, and the mother of one student I have whose family is moving to Saudi Arabia just gifted me with a huge bottle (tube?). I haven't started using them yet, but all I can say is that I am definitely set!
That's about all from me for now. I am so behind on posting. I didn't even take a belly pic this week yet! I'll have to get on that. July is going to be another super busy month for us, but with my student moving away now, I will hopefully have some more time and energy.

The "Big" One

We're halfway there!
So all of the plans I had to update again on Sunday and after the ultrasound on Monday completely flew out the window. I was so tired. -.-; Here's a simple one, though!
Our ultrasound yesterday went very well. Hee Suk was not allowed in with me the whole time, but my doctor called to make sure the monitor was kept on for the entire scan. After all measurements were taken, he was allowed to join me. Thus, I did not spaz and freak out. The tech was super kind and even spoke a little English to me throughout, even though I went in expecting it to be pretty silent. It was an infinitely better experience than the 12-week scan.
For as mellow as baby has been during other visits, baby was not this time around! I was instructed to come with a full bladder, and this apparently made Sesame very...energetic? The tech was able to get all of the initial measurements just fine, but when she was trying to get the hands and feet, she asked me to go to the bathroom in hopes that would get baby to slow down. This did help calm him/her a bit, so she quickly got the last measurements and told her assistant to call my husband in.
Sesame loves keeping keeping his/her hands AND feet by his/her head. Baby also had a great time showing off that he/she knows how to use his/her mouth and can swallow very well. You can see that Sesame's mouth is a little open in the picture above.
I think the tech fell in love with our little one. She could not get over how cute the nose was. Even when Hee Suk said, "But don't they all have cute noses at this age?" she said that ours was just way cuter. Well, I know. ^.~ She was also impressed with Sesame's flexibility, which Hee Suk proudly claims as his own. She kept saying that our baby was so beautiful, so Hee Suk asked, "So, not handsome?" She declined to comment, so he thinks she *might* have been dropping us a hint. They can use beautiful for boys here, too, though.
My Stats
I didn't rest for a minute before taking my blood pressure, so it was slightly higher: 114/62. My heart rate was at 82bpm. I weighed in at 62kg, but I ate lunch right before going, so that might not be completely accurate.
Baby's Stats
So I totally spaced and did not record them well. Sesame is measuring somewhere over 13cm, so a little over 5". Unless I am a complete moron, the weight was about 329g, so about 11oz. I think this all adds up... ^.~ Regardless, everything measured very well. :D
Boy or Girl?
No word yet from either the tech or our doctor, but we've been studying the video we got. I thought boy at first, but there's a good likelihood it was just the umbilical cord I saw during an unrecordd portion. Thus, inconclusive. We're feeling that we my just be able to figure it out next time around. Baby was hilarious in our short clip and kept teasing us. The camera would be at the right spot, and then Sesame would flip his/her legs up to show us and say, "Look at me!" but it's just too quick to be sure. We both are thinking one gender over the other...but I'll keep mum on that for now. ^.~ The tech was SUPER fast with what she needed to do, so it was hard to focus on one spot.
Coming Soon...
Our next appointment is July 22nd. It is the dreaded GD test! I didn't realize that this is when it's done. I'll go in, drink the nastiness of doom, meet with the doctor, and then get my blood drawn one hour from when I've had my drink. They'll let me know the results within about 10 minutes. I can't believe how quickly they do things there.
That will mark 24 weeks, and at 28 weeks, I will receive the Rhogam shot. I am so over this needle business.
I'm also at the point where I have to give a urine sample at every visit. Yesterday's showed no sign of anything, so that's good to hear. Ah, and as of right now, baby's tendency is head down and just basically ideal, but as the doctor and I said together, there's still quite a bit of time! Placenta is in a good position and everything, so all we have to do is just let baby keep on baking!
Freebies!
After our visit, I noticed a lady walking around with a nice Agabang bag, a pretty expensive brand of infant clothing here. I thought, "Hmm, I wonder how he got that?" I saw another woman and got suspicious. Then, I saw a whole mass of women walking with them, and with lots of goodies inside! We decided to seek out the source to see if we could get one. We went down to where the event had been held and talked to someone about if they would have the class again, and he gave us a fan with the website on it. Hee Suk asked about the goodie bag, and he was more than happy to dig one out for us! It has a lot of nice stuff in there! Talk about being at the right place at the right time.
Anyway, I've got a class coming up, so I have to get ready. In short, all is well. ^^;;

Hello, Charlie.
Yesterday, I got my first Charlie's Horse during pregnancy, which makes my life time total a whopping two. I'm actually really thankful for the one I had years and years ago (that was back in OH!). It's a pain you really can't ever forget. Knowing that many women do get them at least some point in pregnancy, I had mentioned to my husband casually before that I might wake up crying in pain sometimes if it does happen to me (which I expected with my sub-par leg circulation).
I'm actually kind of proud of myself. I didn't flail about or anything. I felt it start, and I calmly (though in pain) said to Hee Suk, "Honey, could you help me? ::wakes up startled, and thinking I had fallen off of the bed, grabs for my waist:: My leg, my leg...my left leg..." What a blessing it is that he's trained in sports massage! Before it got to the super painful part, he was able to help it go away. I am definitely going to try stretching those muscles more, especially before bed.
In similar news, I had also fully expected my toes to really start doing their own thing. My toes like to sort of dislocate at times and start moving in ways they weren't meant to move, which can be very uncomfortable. This was a huge problem when I was learning how to do spin kicks in taekwondo because the correct positioning of my leg and making such a strong instep would cause them to start moving out of place. It's not a big problem and doesn't really affect anything, so no worries. Anyway, it's a little bit different from that problem, but I often have muscle spasms on my right foot now which cause the middle toe there to twitch and bend down a little. It's not uncomfortable--just weird. My feet have a mind of their own, that's for sure.
I've also continually forgotten to type about the way I sleep. Hee Suk finds it so peculiar and a little hilarious. Most nights, I fall asleep sitting propped up. I take my shower, sit on the bed propped up and fall right asleep. He'll wake me a little to ask me if I'm going to dry my hair, and I always say no, I just want to sleep. He used to ask me if I was really going to sleep like that, to which I obviously always replied, "Yes." I have never, ever been one to be able to come even remotely close to being able to sleep like that. On planes and other long trips, I always sleep folded over, never slightly reclined. It really is funny. I usually convert to lying on my left side sometime during the night, but it's funny that sitting up has become so comfortable for me. It makes me think of my mom. I don't remember who she was pregnant with, but I remember her going to my grandmother's house later in pregnancy at times to sleep on the recliner she had. That's how I remember it, at least.
In other news...
Costco
I totally feel like a mom now that we have a membership to Costco here. After hearing so many rave about it, we decided to finally go and sign up yesterday. If for nothing else, it was worth it for the pizza. Holy smokes. It's totally American style/taste. I didn't try a hot dog this time, but they look like real hot dogs, not the strange blend they use here. It was heaven on a plate. Hee Suk practically swallowed his whole. It's seriously exactly like Sam's Club's food corner right by the checkouts.
We ate first (after signing up), which was a hilarious experience. The area it's in must not see many foreigners at all, even though it's not terribly far from us. Children kept running up to me to say hi or smile shyly. One child said in Korean, "It's a foreigner!" as his father pushed him by in a cart, so I, in Korean, pointed back and replied with my usual, "It's a Korean!" Hee Suk had apparently never truly witnessed this from me and cracked up. The father was so embarrassed after that. The other child in the cart was smart and simply said, "Hi~"
Anyway, it was crazy in there, but I am glad we went. I can now buy good whole grain granola/snack bars, and the rotisserie chicken is superb. We have not had a good, moist chicken like that in a long time. More importantly, however, I was FINALLY able to buy my turkey deli meat!! It was half the price listed on what we found online. I was delighted.
We scouted out some potential grabs for baby and took mental notes. We're super loyal to G-Market, though. ^.~ I wanted to buy some of the onesies there, but everything was very distinctly boy or girl. I was pleased to find some good, comfy Non-Korean style undies for myself, though, to accomodate my widening hips. :D
All-in-all, it was a good trip. To me, though, it is a little expensive. This is for two reasons: 1) I am not used to buying more in bulk, and 2) a lot of it is marked up due to being imported. Ah, well. The bars are worth it (I bought Nutri-Grain this time around). Korean granola bars are small, not very tasty and usually pretty dry. This is definitely a treat for me. And the pizza. YUM.
One funny note is that we both totally felt like we were back in America while we were in there. This is so much so that when I went to help someone pick up her dropped receipt since she had her hands full, I said in English, "I'll help you!" Smooth. I quickly reverted back to Korean, however, when the psycho woman came up behind me while I was looking at my coveted granola bars and spoke very low level Korean to me to tell me to basically get out of the way. She was weird and lucky Hee Suk couldn't find her. XD

19w (and 2-3 days)
Taken today, BEFORE I had my Krispy Kreme, thanks. ^^;;
I'm actually eating lunch right now, so I will post more either tonight or tomorrow. Baby has apparently been training for the K-1 fight tomorrow, after learning some cool new moves from watching UFC last weekend. And who says education doesn't start in the womb??

Classic
A couple of days ago:
Me: ::pouty faced, looking at my tummy:: I think my belly button is going to pop out soon.
Hee Suk: ::wide-eyed, bewildered:: You mean it's actually going to come out??
He actually thought my belly button was just going to fall off of me, that I would no longer have one.
I have plenty of updates to make but have had little time and far less energy to do so. I will try to at least update this weekend.

You see that pregnant white woman with the Korean husband?
Yeah, don't mess with her.
So we went grocery shopping today. At our HomePlus here, there is a huge food court, so we went around lunch time (well, our lunch time), had some lunch, then did our shopping. It was not so pleasant an experience today.
First, we ordered a set from the Japanese restaurant that includes some sushi, breaded pork cutlet, different kinds of noodles, etc. I couldn't eat the sushi because it was mostly raw (and what wasn't raw was certainly prepared in the same spot), so I wanted to eat the two cone-shaped sushi roles. The way they normally make them is with roe (those orange fish eggs), cucumber and some kind of sprout on top. I can't eat the roe and stear away from most sprouts because a few have a higher risk of some-odd bacteria or other, so we went over to ask the guy to make sure he made it without those two things.
(In Korea, there are food courts with a number of restaurants. You order from the same general cashier, the order sends to the cooks, and they'll page your number when it's ready. Thus, there is usually no reason to talk to the cooks before hand.)
Anyway, so after we placed our order, we went to make our request. The man would not let my husband speak! Hee Suk would spout out a few words, and the man would keep interrupting with, "We'll make your order. It's taken care of. Sit down and wait." Finally, he said, "Just let me talk!" And then he made the request.
OK, so we had one jerky guy. Not the end of the world. The food was good and almost too good of a deal. That was just the beginning, though!
We decided to get ice cream after we ate. I deviated from my usual soft serve and opted for what I thought was a chocolate ice cream with crushed cookies sort of blizzard (called "tornado" here in Korea). I waited for what I ordered while Hee Suk went to another spot to get what he wanted. It wound up being vanilla instead of chocolate, even though the picture clearly looked like chocolate. I went over to him, asked him about it, and he went back over with me. He *tried* to ask about it, but before he could get much out, one young girl, who had displayed her poor customer service earlier with an elderly gentleman asking where something was, kept saying, "Choco cookie, choco cookie. Cookie. COOKIE." I lost count of how many times she said cookie. My husband again was like, "Would you just let me talk?" and I said, "Please listen well!" Then someone apparently higher up person came over and showed us another menu where it is clearly vanilla ice cream. I was disappointed, but no big deal. My word, though! Don't mess with a pregnant woman's food!
And then the cherry on top. We were at the area to box our groceries. I waited off to the side with the cart since there were a lot of people while Hee Suk went to get a box. This old man (an employee) with a cart full of what looked like garbage came up behind me, then beside me and totally whacked the goodness out of my cart. Hee Suk asked him, "What was that??" and he replied with, "I told her to move, and she didn't move!" He kept defending himself saying, "She didn't listen, she didn't listen, I told her to move." Right, because even if he did tell me to move (which he didn't), it's okay to play bumper cars with my cart. Hee Suk was just so upset with him, got his name (which he proudly displayed for him), and called the manager. As a result, he's getting some points deducted (I guess they have a point system) and has to go through 8 hours of customer service re-training. Enjoy!
Hee Suk is very protective of me and our little one. He, too, is determined to change the way Koreans push others they don't know around at times. We're starting with the employees of HomePlus, LOL. Korea will be the politest country in the world in no time! ^.~

It doesn't show my bump well, but it does show my wrap which has become heavenly for me. Seriously, ladies. Get yourself a wrap to lounge around in. It feels so much better than elastic bands of any sorts. Thank goodness I brought this with me!

Also taken Friday, shortly after the other photo. I decided that bare belly is better. You can definitely see I am carrying quite low! The red spot is from the ring that helps adjust the band on my pants, not a stretch mark or anything.
You are so good to us, my Lord. Thank You for always staying by our sides, for never letting us go. Thank You also for definitely giving us a little taekwon-baby! It's so great that even Appa has been able to feel our little bonbon and share in the joy. Thank You so much!

Taken Friday, the next day. I am pinning my shirt back to show my belly better, not standing and saying, "Oh, my back!" Dresses are better for these pics, though.
Also taken Friday, shortly after the other photo. I decided that bare belly is better. You can definitely see I am carrying quite low! The red spot is from the ring that helps adjust the band on my pants, not a stretch mark or anything.
You are so good to us, my Lord. Thank You for always staying by our sides, for never letting us go. Thank You also for definitely giving us a little taekwon-baby! It's so great that even Appa has been able to feel our little bonbon and share in the joy. Thank You so much!

Another Dream
I'm dream all of the time, but I only post the ones worthy of mention. This one is definitely worthy. ♥ My alarm went off at 6:07am, and I fell back asleep and woke up again at right about 6:20. Yes, I am a power dreamer.
In this dream, I had been sleeping, and when I woke up, it was time to push! After a few pushes, our little one was born. (I don't know why, but my dreams always portray ridiculously easy labors.) Hee Suk was lying beside me and holding the baby first, and different things I heard kept confusing me as to whether we had had a boy or a girl. Hee Suk told me we had had a boy, and he then passed him over to me so that I could cuddle with him.
He was just so perfect. He was sleeping when he was born, so he didn't come out crying. He was startled a bit when he was being passed over to me and cried a little, but he calmed down right when he got into my arms. Just as adorable as can be!
I guess we had him home next, and he kept sort of "disappearing." We had swaddled him, but he was still able to reach out and pull the blanket on our bed over his head. He kept trying to cover his head! It was pretty funny.
In my dream, I also thought about how I needed to get on facebook and let everyone know that he had been born. In my dream, I kept referring to him by his name, which was pretty neat. ^^
Anyway, that was about it. Even though I was so tired and groggy when I woke up, it did give me a little bit of a boost.
What's kind of cool is that I dreamt of having our baby boy this morning, and my friend had hers last night! I am so excited for them and can't wait to see him! ♥♥♥
In other news, when I woke up from my nap just a short while ago, my tummy felt so different. It was really funny. It was sticking out more and felt so hard. Little Bonbon must have moved around to something more comfy while I was asleep. I'm anxious to see if he/she is still lying in the same sort of position in just over a week now. The head has always been towards my left with the legs kicking to the right. I don't think this has changed too much given where I feel the kicks landing, but we'll see.
I suspect our little one will be asleep at the ultrasound. We definitely have a night owl just like us. We'll see, though!
Boy or Girl?
A few weeks ago, before our 16-week ultrasound, someone sent me a link to help me try to figure out whether we are having a boy a girl, and I figured I should share it! It's a pretty cool page: Baby2See.
As you were able to see in the video I posted, though, the doctor didn't even go there. ^.~
Anyway, plenty more posts coming later. That's all for now!
Thank You, my Lord, for the incredible blessing growing inside of me. Please grant me the strength and peace to help this little one grow to be the person You have so awesomely designed. Thank You, my King!

An overdue post
I am definitely a little behind now! I will post with mini headers to sort of organize this post.
17 Weeks
We are just a couple of days away from 18 weeks, but 17 still deserves mention! The past week or so, I have noticed I am becoming more sensitive to sights, sounds and smells. How so with sights and sounds? Seeing or hearing something remotely gross can cause me to start gagging. It's actually a little worse that what I experienced in the first trimester. It's manageable, but it's definitely a bit of a bother.
This might be TMI for some, but when they say that different stuff thickens at this point, it's true. I'm definitely blowing my nose and clearing my throat more often. Of course, being more sensitive now, clearing my throat sometimes makes me feel sick. Good times! I've also had some very minor nose bleeds, which I expected.
I wouldn't trade any of this for the world, though.
Buys
I bought two books when I went out with a friend (M--hello!) last week Sunday. I bought a baby book I had also bought for a friend when she had her baby. It's called, I Love You, Mommy, and is in both English and Korean. It's a Christian book, to boot! I wanted to also purchase I Love You, Daddy, but they were out of stock. I'll have to order it instead.
For myself, I bought a book on breastfeeding that I think is the same one another friend here has. It's so important to me, so I want to just soak in as much as possible early on. As much as I am on the internet, with pregnancy stuff, I prefer to have books to refer to for such things rather than having to search for them on the internet. It has probably saved my sanity on a number of occassions. Anyway, I started glancing through it when I got home that day and was seriously just like a sponge. Definitely glad I picked it up.

When I was with M, she gave us some of her daughter's old baby clothes that no longer fit, as well as her Bumbo! The Bumbo was on my list of things to buy, so I am especially grateful for that. We obviously still don't know if we're having a boy or girl, so if we can't use the clothes, I know some people who will! Thank you, M!
Last week, the mother of one of my students offered us a little baby bath insert that she had used when her little ones were, well, little(r). I've never really seen this style before, but who am I to turn down such an offer? Again, if we don't use it, there are plenty who would love to!
A Belated Birthday Wish
I had wanted to post on Friday but did not have the energy to do so. As such, we would all like to wish Sesame's Uncle Brian a belated Happy Birthday!
Much Needed Weekend Getaway
The past couple of weeks have been insanely busy for both of us, leaving us very exhausted and drained (hence my absence on the internet). We decided we needed a little getaway to refresh our bodies and minds, so we found ourselves in Incheon over the weekend.
Hee Suk found an AMAZING package deal at the Ramada Songdo Beach Hotel. It's not really on the beach, but that's okay. For under $150, we got a nice hotel room, two "cruise" tickets (we say cruise, but maybe boat tour is the proper term?), a buy-one-get-one ticket to InSpa World (a small waterpark) and perhaps most importantly, two tickets for the breakfast buffet.
The cruise was almost three hours long, which included a stopover on Palmido Island. It's only been open to tourists for 5 months now, and it was also used for the filming of Boys Over Flowers, the first drama I filmed for. We didn't know this when we made our reservations, but that was kind of neat. The ship was very nice and comfortable. We were actually probably two of the youngest people there, save for a few families! That has many stories in and of itself.
There were two problems, though, one of which I am sure you will all find hilarious since it didn't happen to you. People like to feed the seagulls this little shrimp chip snacks (which are really yummy). Hee Suk wanted to feed them, so I took some pictures. Well, the last bird he fed sent some projectile poop right at me, geting on my hand, arm and shirt. At first, I thought it was just the chip he tried to grab flying back and hit me. That was the force of it! I looked down to find otherwise, though. The staff helped get some wet wipes to clean up, and Hee Suk took me down to rinse my hands in the bathroom.
This was a mistake. The bathroom doesn't have a sink, first of all. It's outside of the bathroom. I waited to go in, though, and found that the toilet had apparently not been flushing for a few people. I nearly tossed my cookies, I couldn't handle it. It was really bad. I tried to go to the sink to rinse my hands, but even though it wasn't but, it was still too grody for me. We settled for pouring water out of our water bottle and letting me rinse that way.
Otherwise, it was an uneventful and very enjoyable trip. It was worth over $40, so we really did get a great deal! On the way back to the hotel, we found a really cute restaurant and decided to try it out. We had tabletop grilled eel and barbecue samgyeopsal (tabletop grilled pork), which our little one definitely approved of.
Other than that, the breakfast buffet was everything I had hoped for (the hashbrowns tasted like McDonald's hash browns!), and going for a swim was very nice and relaxing. Sesame also apparently found it relaxing, as he/she seemed to be asleep the whole time. We were very tuckered out by the time we got back home!
Taekwon Baby
Saturday night, we climbed into bed and wound up watching some of the really bad movie Forbidden Kingdom. For as much as I simply love Jet Li and the tale of Journey to the West, I did not love this movie. It was still fun to watch, somehow.
We were laughing at kung fu and whatnot, and Hee Suk started telling me stories of when he was little and studying taekwondo, and others wanted to study kung fu because of all of the movies out there at the time. Sesame took this opportunity to show Appa that he/she is totally all for taekwondo and has been training hard already. He has tried to feel baby moving around before, but his impatience has led to him giving up early. Well last night, he was finally able to feel our little Sesame! I am still just beyond thrilled for this. It was just a really special time to finally be able to feel our little one move around.

That's about all I have for now. Hopefully, this refreshing weekend will have provided me with the energy I need to keep this blog cooking more again. We are about two weeks away from being halfway there! We're also just two weeks away from our next ultrasound, which is a big one. I hope that even if the tech won't give us a hint about whether we are having a boy or a girl, we will be able to figure it out ourselves. We'll just have to wait and see.
Our Heavenly Father, thank You so much for the opportunity to get away this weekend and just enjoy some time away with each other, helping us to relax and refresh ourselves from a very stressful past couple of weeks. Thank You also for the blessing of a healthy little one and for the great blessing of Hee Suk being able to feel him/her this weekend. As always, Your timing is perfect! Thank You so much, my Lord.
